Take this information for what its worth. I'm 35 yo male, started thinning & receeding at 17 but it stopped almost completely when I was 25 without treatment and left me with a very high hairline/temples and pretty thin on top and at front. Been the same more or less the last ten years. I've tried using a few things in the past few years like minox, zix and niz shampoo but I'm not bothered enough about it to contemplate Fin or any internal drugs except vitamins. I've never noticed that these made any difference.

Anyway I added about a teaspoon of caffeine powder to Head and Shoulders Hydrazinc formula shampoo and have noticed very good results - looks much thicker and am almost getting a very patchy hairline back over my temples. I'm thinking because I lost hair slowly and have lots of semi-viable fluffy velus hairs still this is just giving these hairs the push they need to come back to life.

Maybe a good option for people with slow hairloss, and shows that even 10 years later, if you have lots of stunted hairs that aren't adding much to your hairs thickness, these can be brought back.

I also take Alpha Lipoic Acid, GSE, Milk Thistle, Hyaloronic Acid with Crondoitin and Natokinases (all for none hairloss related reasons) but I've taken these for ages and not noticed them helping grow back hair.

Hydrazinc, I think this is the zinc based anti-dandruff formula in most/all Head and Shoulders shampoo, and Caffeine powder from ebay. Sorry can't be more specific because I can't remember

Does caffeine and minoxidil NOT go together for some reason? I've read this. And would it matter if they weren't applied together or if the caffeine was used in a shampoo?

No idea sorry. I read the same thing. Minoxidil apparently opens up the blood vessels and caffeine constricts them. There again I heard that was what made Minoxil work (opening blood vessels wider) so how could caffeine possibly help if that was Minoxidil's method of action?

Because minoxidil's method of action is not related to the fact that it "opens blood vessels". There are a lot of things we could rub on our head that opens blood vessels but they don't grow any hair. Personally I think anything that constricts blood flow in the scalp actually helps hair grow back.

Caffeine is an interesting substance...very interesting. My second interesting substance is bayberry extract.....it to is very interesting.

So Caffeine and Minoxidil would be a good combination based on that?

Why do you think that constricting blood supply will help in itself? Because less blood borne DHT will reach the follicles?

Something like Xylometazoline Hydrochloride really constricts blood vessels when used topically. Maybe that's a good idea?!?

I agree caffeine is really good to add to your shampoo. I've been doing this for about 2 years now as well. I think caffeine and lasers worked well together.

Yeah, I started lasering again about 2 weeks ago, I'm hoping they work well together although I've seen better results from caffeine alone because I tried lasers on their own a while ago (only for about 3 months) and they did seem to work but only a bit.

I agree. I haven't used any Fin or minox, just Alpecin caffeine shampoo and lotion - occasionally Revita. Not the "answer" but accessible, cheap and definitely helps.

so where are good inexpensive reliable places to buy caffeine powder? how much do you need to add to a shampoo bottle? how big a bottle of caffeine do people typically buy for combining with shampoo?

thanks.

How much caffeine do you add to your shampoo? Do you put the caffeine in the shampoo bottle and mix it all together? Or do you just put a little caffeine in a squirt of shampoo in your hands in the shower? Also how many times a week do you shampoo with caffeine? every day? 3 times a week?

Hair Maestro, thanks for the info. I've read about caffeine but never really investigated it. I also find your comment about the window of opportunity to regrow hair, 10 years, interesting. That's more than I've heard before but I agree with you under the conditions you mentioned. It sounds like something worth trying. How long have you been using the caffeine? Do you leave it on your head for a while, or just shampoo and rinse?

Dobika,

Note Hair Maestro 10 year comment was on the "stunted hairs". This is not regrowth per se, but revitalization of some just hanging on hair. As long as the hair follicles are still there and have somewhat active hair, you have a chance.

The scientific studies and experience of balding men shows that once the hair follicle shuts down the fibrotic encapsulation of the dead follicle begins to occur. About 24-30 months later the fibrosis there is permanent and complete and there is no real hope of regaining hair there. It is basically scarred over tissue at this point.

These are physiological sad facts of hair loss. The 30 month window stands. That is why prevention and super proactiveness are of the upmost importance when combatting hair loss.

You want pure Anhydrous Caffeine powder. I buy it online at bulknutrition. It is about 20 to 35 dollars for a years supply. Super cheap.

I make a weekly shampoo mix. I use a separate bottle and put in about 1 once of shampoo and then add 1/3 to 1/2 teaspoon of caffeine, then add another once of shampoo and then add same amount of caffeine as before and repeat up to about 5 to 6 onces of total shampoo. I then shake it up to mix it. This way I get good mix of the caffeine in the shampoo. My shampoo I like for this is J.A.Y. by Aubrey's.

I shampoo my hair with caffeine 4-7 days a week. It is best to do it in the morning or early afternoon otherwise it will interfere with your sleep (it is caffeine and it gets absorbed thru your scalp). I use a pretty high concentration. It is little grainy. So I shampoo and massage it in and leave on no more than 1 to 2 minutes and then wash out thouroughly.

if coffee is as effective as you say then why products like revita and thicker fuller that contain caffeine had made wonder. I have used revita and it changed nothing.

Thanks Lapwing, I understand what you're saying, your not going to regrow hair on someone like Kojak after 10 years. What kind of results are you getting with the caffeine? Regrowth or thickening?

Hard to say what my results are from caffeine. It definitely helps with halting hair loss. In conjunction with lllt, I believe it helps with regrowth and thickening. I am not sure what it would do alone though for regrowth.

As I understand it, Caffeine prevents hair loss by prolonging the growth phase of individual follicles. http://www.alpecin.co.uk/gb/pdf/alpecin_research_1.pdf - rather than regrowth.

Montrose, Alpecin is available in supermarkets and drug stores here in the UK, not sure in other places. It also uses Zinc PCA in the formulation which helps combat DHT build up. I'm no scientist but I can just say anecdotally that I have noticed that the shampoo / lotion combo has completely slowed my rate of loss. I am searching for a regrowth agent (but not Fin or Minox)...the holy grail lol!

Which one would you do?

Something like Alpecin or Revita? (btw, which is better?)

Or buy regular shampoo and add the cafeine from bulk nutrition?
